The ceremonial easel announcing the birth of Harry and Meghan’s newborn has now been placed in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace in London.

The notice will be on display to the public until 8 p.m. (3 p.m. ET) on Tuesday.

Royal baby was born at sunrise

A fun fact as we wait for the royal notice to be displayed in front of Buckingham Palace.

Location of birth of royal baby will not be disclosed

The location where Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, gave birth is being kept “private” according to Buckingham Palace.

The royal protocol still to come

Traditionally, a notice is placed on an easel outside Buckingham Palace to announce the birth of a royal baby.

One royal tradition to watch out for on Monday is the release of an official notice signed by Meghan’s doctors, confirming the newborn’s gender, weight and time of birth.

Here’s what the palace says about it: A framed notice of birth will go on display on a ceremonial easel on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace following the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son.

The framed notice of birth will be brought out of the Privy Purse Door and carried across the forecourt, to be placed on the easel.

What’s different this time round? The easel is being placed out after news of the new royal baby’s birth was announced on Instagram, usually it’s placed on the forecourt simultaneously as the birth is first revealed.

Meghan and Harry's Bank Holiday baby shares a birthday with...

Actor George Clooney.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son has arrived on a scheduled Bank Holiday here in the UK. Britain’s Press Association has put together a helpful list of some of the well-known personalities the newborn now shares a birthday with:

  • Actor George Clooney
  • Former UK PM Tony Blair
  • American singer-songwriter Bob Seger
  • American crime writer Jeffery Deaver
  • Ex-soccer player and manager Graeme Souness
  • Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett
  • American actress Gabourey Sidibe

Harry and Meghan’s yet-to-be-named baby boy was just a few weeks too late to share a birthday with some of his royal relatives. Queen Elizabeth II’s 93rd birthday was on April 21 while cousins Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte celebrated their birthdays on April 23 and May 2 respectively.

Will the royal baby have dual citizenship?

Meghan and Harry’s son is the first British-American baby born into the British royal family.

The newborn will automatically be a British citizen, but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will have to report their child’s birth to an American consulate in order for him to obtain US citizenship.

In the case of the royal baby, he will be eligible because he was born in wedlock abroad to an American citizen who has lived in the US for a period of five years, at least two of which were after the age of 14 – according to the US Department of State.

Royal family fans arrive in Windsor to celebrate birth

Anton McCoy was at a pub called “The Prince Harry” enjoying a pint called “Windsor Baby” when the news broke.

“It started slow, but you could tell who knew and who didn’t. People are happy and ‘It’s a boy!’ can be heard as people pass. Quite a few film crews starting to arrive,” he told CNN.

“People are just happy. Happy for them, happy for Harry a lot. Loads of photos by the pub being taken. Loads of people pleased they took a day trip here today. A real good mood maker.”

London landmark lights up for royal baby birth

London’s BT Tower landmark was lit up on Monday with a message of congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Is the new royal baby a prince?

Despite being seventh in line to the throne, Meghan and Harry’s baby doesn’t automatically become a prince.

In 1917, King George V limited the use of such titles within the British royal family and the couple’s child will be too far down the line of succession.

However, Queen Elizabeth II could step in to overrule that decree – as she has done with the younger children of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Since George is third in line to the throne, he was automatically a prince.
