About

Tara John is an Emmy award-winning, New York-based writer, where she covers international breaking news, analysis and investigations with a focus on the Americas.

Prior to moving to New York in 2022, Tara worked out of CNN’s London bureau for three years where she covered EMEA stories and led coverage on equalities and human rights reporting.

She has covered the invasion of Ukraine, took a lead role in CNN’s vital Covid-19 newsletter, and has written extensively on complex topics, including identity, Covid conspiracy groups in Europe, war crimes, and the culture wars. She led a team that won an Eppy Award in 2020, and was part of the Ukraine coverage team that won a Columbia DuPont award and Emmy Awards in 2023.

Before CNN, Tara worked as a broadcast journalist at the BBC and was TIME Magazine’s reporter in London covering Brexit, European politics and terrorism for the EMEA region.

Tara is originally from Singapore, where she worked as a sub-editor at Thomson Reuters after graduating with a politics and history degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London.
