The intense hurricane spawned tornadoes, dumped rain across much of the state, left millions without power and claimed at least nine lives, including five people in St. Lucie County.

Prior to joining CNN in 2024, Warnes was an audience editor at The Wall Street Journal, collaborating across the health and science and US news teams, and working closely with the graphics department. She has worked at the Office for National Statistics in Wales, and at the Daily Mirror in London. Warnes has run workshops, participated in panels and given presentations about data journalism at international conferences, and also writes a newsletter about data journalism and visual storytelling.
