Tawfeeq has more than 18 years of experience as an international news editor and field producer specializing in the Middle East and North Africa. He has covered major events in the region including the US-led invasion of Iraq and subsequent sectarian violence, the toppling of Moammar Gadhafi in Libya and the rise and fall of ISIS. He has also contributed to CNN’s coverage of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel and war in Gaza as well as the toppling of Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
