Jamie Gangel, an award-winning veteran correspondent, joined CNN in August 2015. Gangel reports for the network’s digital and television platforms, and regularly appears on CNN’s AC360, The Lead with Jake Tapper and The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.

Prior to joining CNN, Gangel had been at NBC News since 1983 and spent nearly two decades as National Correspondent for TODAY, covering a variety of issues, from popular culture to hard news.

As TODAY National Correspondent, Gangel has become well known for her long-format features and interviews, profiling everyone from presidents and celebrities to ordinary people with extraordinary stories. Among her many exclusives, Gangel has profiled presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama, as well as dozens of prominent newsmakers including Vice President Dick Cheney, first lady Laura Bush, first lady Barbara Bush, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Governor Jeb Bush, Governor Chris Christie and Donald Trump.

Over her career Gangel made headlines with many other exclusive interviews, such as radio host Rush Limbaugh, Chief Justice of the United States William Rehnquist, the first interview with Linda Tripp, legendary American artist Andrew Wyeth, the only television interview with actor Robert Downey Jr. while he was in California State prison, Florida Governor Jeb Bush on his daughter Noelle’s battle with drug addiction, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and businessman Ross Perot.

In the arts, Gangel has interviewed rock legends Eric Clapton and Keith Richards as well as ballet star Mikhail Baryshnikov, cellist Yo Yo Ma, Arthur Miller, George Lucas, Quincy Jones, and the legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach. She has also profiled many actors, singers and artists, including Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, Jeremy Irons, Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood, John Travolta, Jim Carrey, Courtney Love, Billy Crystal, Vanessa Redgrave, Peter O’Toole, Jane Fonda, Glenn Close, Barbara Streisand, Larry Flynt, Hunter Thompson, 50 Cent, James Earl Jones, Henry Winkler, Cee Lo Green, and Frank Zappa.

For TODAY, Gangel has reported around the world, from Europe to Africa to South America. In 1987, Gangel covered the Iran-Iraq war as part of the Pentagon pool in the Persian Gulf. In 1986, Gangel covered stories in Central America, reporting on the war between the Nicaraguan government and the Contras. In 1984, she covered the presidential campaigns of Jesse Jackson, John Glenn, and Gary Hart, and the vice-presidential campaign of Geraldine Ferraro. Her features have included profiling the major athletic stars of the Olympics, traveling to the Arctic Circle to observe polar bears, and swimming with sharks in the Caribbean. Her many honors and awards include Emmy, Edward R. Murrow, Clarion, AP and Gracie awards.

Gangel was born and raised in New York City where she attended The Dalton School. She graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 1977. In 1976, she also attended Harvard University, where she studied international economics.

Gangel is married to #1 New York Times best-selling novelist Daniel Silva. The couple lives in Florida with their twins Lily and Nicholas.
