Since joining CNN in 2020, Lopez has covered some of the highest-profile trials of this decade, including Kyle Rittenhouse, Derek Chauvin, Harvey Weinstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, and he has guided coverage of the gun violence epidemic and policing in America after the death of George Floyd.
Lopez has shepherded stories about the school shooting in Oxford, Michigan, and the subsequent arrest, prosecution and conviction of the shooter’s parents. He’s covered Luigi Mangione’s arrest, the Baltimore Key Bridge collapse and the explosion of the Titan submersible.
Before CNN, Lopez was breaking news editor for Newsday. He is originally from Long Island, New York, and graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
