About

Anna-Maja Rappard is an award-winning journalist and Senior Investigative Producer for CNN, based in Los Angeles.

Rappard has produced stories from the field across the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. Her reporting has taken her from the streets of Minneapolis to Beirut, Lebanon; from the White House and the World Economic Forum in Davos to the frontlines of the war in Ukraine.

Most recently, Rappard was as a senior producer on CNN’s newsgathering team, specializing in breaking news and feature stories in the U.S. and around the world. During that time, she extensively covered the disinformation surrounding the 2020 presidential election results and the state-level efforts to undermine them. In 2023, her reporting alongside CNN’s Senior National Correspondent Kyung Lah across Arizona, Wisconsin, Nevada, Michigan, and Pennsylvania was recognized by the Walter Cronkite Awards for Excellence in Television Political Journalism. Rappard was also part of the CNN team awarded a Columbia-duPont Award for their coverage of the war in Ukraine in 2022.

Rappard began her career at CNN as an intern covering the United Nations in New York with CNN’s legendary UN correspondent Richard Roth. In the years following, she gained experience across various parts of the network. She was a leading news editor on the international desk during the 2014 crisis in Ukraine and the rise of ISIS in Iraq and Syria. She went on to become the editorial producer for CNN’s flagship foreign affairs program, Fareed Zakaria GPS, where she secured and produced high-profile, exclusive interviews with President Barack Obama, Aung San Suu Kyi, Harry Belafonte, and other notable figures. Before joining the Los Angeles bureau, Rappard was based in New York, where she produced news-making interviews and live broadcasts from the field for Richard Quest, CNN’s foremost international business correspondent and anchor of Quest Means Business.

Born in Germany, Rappard is fluent in German and conversational in Dutch. She has studied Arabic, Spanish, and French. She graduated magna cum laude from New York University with a dual bachelor’s degree in journalism and history.
