Alex Stambaugh is a Senior Editor for CNN International based in its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong, helping guide CNN’s international news coverage under the company’s follow-the-sun news model.
Stambaugh was previously a Senior News Editor for CNN’s International Desk, managing daily newsgathering priorities for international coverage across multiple bureaus globally.
Prior to that, she was a Senior Content Producer for CNN’s International Newsource, where she oversaw international content curation for over 1,300 affiliate media partners around the world.
Stambaugh joined CNN in 2016 and has been key to the network’s coverage of major breaking news stories. She received Emmy Awards for her role in CNN’s coverage of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza in 2023.
She has also produced from the field on stories including the Hong Kong protests in 2019, the Trump-Kim Jong Un summits in Vietnam and Singapore, the Thai cave rescue, and the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Before joining CNN in 2016, Stambaugh covered politics for NBC News in Washington, D.C. and worked on NBC’s morning show, TODAY, in New York. She holds a degree in International Affairs from George Washington University.
