Fifth person found dead after Alaska landslide; search for 12-year-old boy called off, authorities say

Search crews in southern Alaska have located the remains of another person who went missing in a November landslide, the state’s Department of Public Safety said in a news release Friday, leaving a 12-year-old as the last person still unaccounted for after the disaster.

Alberto Moya is a Regional Newsgathering Director of CNN’s West and Midwest regional bureau, based out of Los Angeles. Moya oversees production, editorial, and logistical aspects of the teams in Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, and San Francisco.

Moya joined CNN in June 2015, where he covered news events including President Obama’s historic visit to Cuba, Hurricane Maria and the 2016 Democratic and Republican conventions.

In February 2019, Moya was assigned to be the producer covering Senator Kamala Harris’ presidential bid.

Moya was awarded The LA Press Club Award for his coverage of the San Bernardino shooting.

Before joining CNN, Moya was at CBS News where his work there earned him an Overseas Press Club Award, a duPont Award and multiple Emmy nominations. As a producer at CBS, Alberto Moya was part of the coverage of superstorm Sandy, Hurricanes Mitch in Honduras, the Pope’s visit to Cuba as well as covering the Castro brothers. He covered multiple stories on immigration and border security in Mexico and oversaw special projects in Central America for 60 Minutes and 48 Hours documentaries.

Alberto Moya was born in San José, Costa Rica and is a graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, MN.
