The Los Angeles Dodgers are once again World Series champions.
The Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in five games, wrapping up the series Wednesday with a 7-6 win at Yankee Stadium. It is their eighth title in franchise history and their first since 2020.
Freddie Freeman was named World Series MVP. The first baseman hit home runs in each of the first four games — the most dramatic being a walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning of Game 1.
The victory caps off a historic season for Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers’ Japanese superstar who was playing in his first postseason. Earlier this year, Ohtani became the first player ever to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in the same season. He dislocated his shoulder in Game 2 but returned for Game 3.
It was a disappointing end to the season for the Yankees, who were looking to win their 28th championship and first since 2009.
