US President Joe Biden traveled to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware this past week to honor the three American soldiers who were killed in a drone attack in Jordan.

Biden attended the dignified transfers of Sgt. William Rivers, 46; and two Army specialists who were posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant: Kennedy Sanders, 24, and Breonna Moffett, 23. All are from Georgia.

“They risked it all,” Biden said the day before his trip.

In retaliation for the drone strike, which the United States blamed on an umbrella group of Iran-backed militants in Iraq, there were major airstrikes conducted on dozens of targets across Iraq and Syria. The strikes were larger in number and scale than previous ones launched since October, when Iran-backed armed groups began attacking US forces across the region in protest of Israel’s war in Gaza.

Iraq and Syria condemned the US attack as infringements on their sovereignty that risk fueling regional conflict. Iran warned the strikes would only escalate tensions.

Here are some of the stories that made headlines over the past week, as well as some photos that caught our eye.
