A sprawling winter storm blanketed the central and southern United States with ice and snow before making its way toward the Northeast on Friday.
Snow fell across much of New York, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, and freezing rain and ice caused treacherous travel in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Thousands of flights have been canceled.
