Brazil is one of the few large countries in the world where coronavirus cases β€” and death rates β€” are still rising.

It is Latin America's hardest-hit country, with confirmed cases climbing by the thousands each day.

Only the United States has more confirmed cases than Brazil, which has passed 2 million. More than 75,000 people have died.

After months of downplaying the virus, deriding it as just a "little flu," President Jair Bolsonaro tested positive for Covid-19, he announced on July 7.
