At least 22 people were killed and more than two dozen were injured in a mass shooting Saturday at a shopping center in El Paso, Texas.
Patrick Crusius, the 21-year-old white supremacist suspected of carrying out the shooting, wanted to stop a "Hispanic invasion of Texas," according to a political document police believe he wrote. He has been charged with capital murder and is being held without bond, according to court documents. He may also face hate crime charges.
Hours after the El Paso shooting, a gunman opened fire in a popular nightlife district in downtown Dayton, Ohio. At least nine people were killed there and more than two dozen were injured.
The Dayton gunman was identified as Connor Betts, 24. He was killed by police within 30 seconds of opening fire, authorities said.
Authorities found writings linked to Betts that show he had an interest in killing people, two federal law enforcement sources told CNN. A preliminary assessment of the writings did not indicate any racial or political motive, the sources said.
