Willem Dafoe, left, and Robert Pattinson in "The Lighthouse."

The production company A24 has released a first look at “The Lighthouse,” the second film from “The Witch” director Robert Eggers. If this trailer is any indication, the psychological horror movie promises to be just as spine-chilling as his first.

“The Lighthouse” follows Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe as lighthouse keepers on a solitary rocky island in 1890’s New England.

Drawing inspiration from early sound pictures, the film appears to be shot in black and white with square framing.

In the trailer released Tuesday, the seamen appear to fight against the merciless forces of nature while also growing weary of one another. Tension mounts, complete with a crescendo from the chorus and Dafoe’s increasing interrogations of his partner.

And the weather isn’t the only thing that’s foggy about this film.

“How long have we been on this rock? Five weeks? Two days? Help me to recollect,” Dafoe, a rugged sea dog who has definitely seen better days, says to Pattinson.

There are also brief scenes of massive tentacles attacking Pattinson and a mysterious mermaid-like creature, suggest our leading men will have more to deal with than just bad storms.

Hold on to your sailor hats, because this isn’t going to be an easy ride.

“The Lighthouse” is set to be released on October 18.
