It’s been two years since “The Vampire Diaries” went off the air, but if the show’s absence hasn’t killed your interest in behind the scenes gossip, here’s a revelation for you: Stefan and Elena didn’t always get along behind the scenes.
“Paul and I didn’t get along at the beginning of the show,” actress Nina Dobrev said on the latest episode of the podcast Directionally Challenged. “I respected Paul Wesley; I didn’t like Paul Wesley.”
The podcast is hosted by Dobrev’s fellow “Vampire Diaries” alums, Candice King and Kayla Ewell.
“I remember everyone would walk up to me after the show aired and they’d be like, ‘Are you and Paul dating in real life?’ because everyone thought that we had such good chemistry…I realize now that there’s a fine line between love and hate and we despised each other so much that it read as love,” she said about an hour into the chat. “We really just didn’t get along the first maybe five months of shooting.”
Before this news hits you like a stake to the heart, their animosity didn’t last.
Dobrev said of all her former cast members, she sees and hangs out with Wesley the most.
“We’re probably the closest, like, we hang out a lot and we’re really good friends and I love his wife,” she said. “It’s so funny how much has changed because I never thought that he would be one of my best friends.”
Dobrev most recently starred on the CBS sitcom “Fam,” which was canceled in May.
