Washington (CNN)Donald Trump found himself the target of audible boos on Tuesday as he entered the U.S. Open quarterfinals in New York on Tuesday evening.
The GOP presidential front-runner, on hand to watch defending U.S. Open champion and top-ranked Serena Williams defeat her older sister, Venus, was booed as he entered the stadium, according to a video posted by ESPN.
The reaction came as Trump, a New York native, walked alongside his wife, Melania, by media near the stadium entrance.
Celebrity Alan Cumming apparently enjoyed the occasion, tweeting, "So much fun joining in the mass collective boo at Donald Trump here at the U.S. Open!!"
Trump is leading nearly every Republican poll both nationally and in early voting states. He is scheduled to leave New York tomorrow to appear at a rally in Washington with Ted Cruz to protest the Iranian nuclear deal.
