Rapid urbanization requires more food to be shipped to cities from rural production areas. But the very containers used to transport food are incredibly harmful to the ozone because of the synthetic cooling mechanisms.
So Carrier Corp. developed NaturaLINE technology, which repurposes existing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to refrigerate products and medications for transport.
There are roughly 275,000 synthetically refrigerated shipping containers used every day (and 1.1 million total). If they were all replaced with NaturaLine refrigeration units, the company says it would have the same impact as removing all cars from Washington, D.C. roads for an entire year.
