A quality management director reviews all of a hospital or health care system's policies and procedures. The goal: Find ways to improve patient care and make sure all regulatory standards are being met. These directors also roll out new procedures to improve care quality and make sure all staff are trained in them.

Why it's great: Quality management directors get to think about ways to improve health care on a large scale. "It's satisfying to develop a program that prevents harm and saves lives," says clinical excellence and chief quality officer Mark Jarrett.

Quality of life ratings:
Personal satisfaction: A | Benefit to society: A | Telecommuting: B | Low stress: C

Notes: All pay data from PayScale.com. Median pay is for an experienced worker (at least five or seven years in the field). Top pay represents the 90th percentile.
