Like the EV1, S10 Electric trucks were produced to meet regulatory demands.
The S10 Electric pickup, a modified version of GM's standard compact truck, was powered by a modified version of the EV1's electric drive system.

Introduced around the same time as the EV1, the electric S10 was designed solely for fleet use by "companies or agencies with predictable driving routes." The trucks were designed to help fleet owners meet federal zero-emission vehicle requirements. Several hundred were leased or sold.

When the EV1 program stopped, so did the S10 Electric.
