GM's long road back to electric cars

General Motors' GMC truck division sold electric-powered trucks, like this moving van, from 1912 to 1917. They ultimately couldn't compete against internal combustion technology.

In 1913, GMC produced 173 electric trucks, accounting for almost 40% of the unit's sales that year, according to a GM article on the venture. That figure steadily fell over the years until, in 1917, GMC's Electric Division produced just one truck.
