Clare Sebastian is a correspondent for CNN based in the network’s London bureau, covering international news with a particular focus on Russia’s war in Ukraine, and the political and economic fallout of that conflict.
A fluent Russian speaker, Sebastian has travelled extensively to Russia, covering everything from the 2016 Olympic doping scandal to the fallout of the DNC hack and the scandals surrounding former president Trump’s alleged Russia connections. She produced a series of stories on the epidemic of domestic violence in Russia, and covered the early activities of the Evgeny Prigozhin’s Internet Research agency, Russia’s so-called “troll factory”. In 2014 she was part of CNN’s team in Crimea when the peninsula was annexed by Russia.
Prior to returning to London, Sebastian spend 8 years with the CNN International Business unit in New York, first as Senior Producer for Quest Means Business, and then 5 years as CNN International’s Business correspondent, covering Wall Street, the Trump administration’s economic policies, and the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019 she carried out a 6 month investigation into Amazon’s sales of unsafe baby and children’s products, including a car seat that proved potentially deadly in a crash test.
Sebastian has a degree in Russian and German from the University of Cambridge and lives in London.
