US presidents past and present sat together Thursday as they attended the state funeral of Jimmy Carter.
Carter, the 39th president, died December 29 at the age of 100.
“Jimmy Carter’s friendship taught me — and through his life, taught me — strength of character is more than title or the power we hold,” President Joe Biden said as he eulogized Carter at the Washington National Cathedral.
President-elect Donald Trump attended Thursday’s funeral, as did former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
Earlier this week, Carter lied in state at the US Capitol Rotunda, allowing members of the public to say goodbye.
After the funeral, his casket was heading back to Georgia, where he would be buried in his hometown of Plains.
Here are some of the stories that made headlines over the past week, as well as some photos that caught our eye.
