President Obama will make an appearance on Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee"
Episode taped on White House South Lawn in silver-blue 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe
President Barack Obama is neither a comedian nor, by most accounts, a car fanatic. But he’ll nonetheless make an appearance on Jerry Seinfeld’s “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” when the web series premieres later this month.
Obama and the funnyman taped an episode on the White House South Lawn, following the show’s model of cruising along in a vintage car before sitting down for coffee and a chat.
Typically the guest is a famous comedian – others who sat down with Seinfeld this year include Steve Martin and Will Ferrell. Obama is the first elected official to partake.
The vehicle of choice for the commander-in-chief: a silver-blue 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe, which a promo released Monday showed Seinfeld driving right up to the South Portico of the White House.
During the taping, each men took turns circling the White House driveway – a rare experience for Obama, who isn’t typically permitted to get behind the wheel of a car.
For the “coffee” portion, Obama and Seinfeld returned inside to a staff dining room in the White House basement, “to discuss many of the little things that make life in the White House simultaneously remarkable and routine.”
“Growing up in the ’60s my kid dream was always to be an astronaut – doing a comedy show with President Obama in and around the White House felt like going into space,” Seinfeld said of the experience.
“‘How did I get here?’ ‘Is this really happening?’ The President’s humor and generosity are the only reasons this was even possible,” he said, describing Obama as “so easy and fun to be with.”
“Being President and just a cool guy to hang out with at the same time made the experience my own personal moonwalk. It was an unforgettable day.”
Obama’s episode is slated to run December 30 on the web streaming site Crackle.
