David Beckham revealed last October that he was ready to start his own MLS franchise after retiring from football. Former England captain Beckham, who played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, will now turn his attention to helping his new Miami franchise become a serious player in U.S. soccer.

Beckham's groundbreaking contract signed with LA Galaxy in 2007 gave him the option to create a new MLS team for $25 million. "When I signed my contract six, seven years ago, my manager Simon Fuller actually got a clause in the contract that enabled me to have a franchise at the end of my playing career and obviously now I've stopped playing," he said at a book launch last year.<br />
