Anna-Maja Rappard is an award-winning journalist and CNN Senior Producer based in Los Angeles. As part of the network’s newsgathering team, she specializes in breaking news and feature stories.
Anna-Maja has produced in the field across the U.S., Europe and the Middle East. Her assignments have taken her from the streets of Minneapolis to the streets of Beirut, Lebanon; from the White house as well as the World Economic Forum in Davos to covering the war in Ukraine.
In 2023, Anna-Maja received the prestigious Walter Cronkite Award for her work with CNN’s Senior National Correspondent Kyung Lah working the state-level democracy beat for CNN over two years and reporting on the lies undermining American democracy after the 2020 election. She was also a part of the CNN team recognized with a Columbia-duPont Award for their coverage of the war in Ukraine in 2022.
Anna-Maja began her career at CNN as an intern covering the United Nations in New York, before rising up the ranks to the role of senior producer. She also worked as a news editor on the network’s international desk, and secured and produced high-profile, exclusive interviews with the likes of President Barack Obama, Aung San Suu Kyi, Harry Belafonte, among other notable names, when she was the editorial producer for CNN’s weekly flagship foreign affairs show Fareed Zakaria GPS. Prior to joining the Los Angeles bureau, Anna-Maja was based in New York, where she produced for Richard Quest, CNN’s foremost international business correspondent and anchor of CNN’s International’s daily business show Quest Means Business.
Born in Germany, Anna-Maja is fluent in German and conversational in Dutch. She has studied Arabic, as well as Spanish and French. She graduated magna cum laude from New York University and hold a dual bachelor’s degree in journalism and history. Follow her on Twitter @annamajaCNN.
