Trump rally draws 30,000 in Alabama

Some 30,000 people packed a Mobile, Alabama, football stadium to see Donald Trump August 2015. The large crowd was an early sign that Trump had broad strength in different parts of the country.

People wait in line for the venue to open. It had been planned for the Mobile Civic Center but was moved to Ladd-Peebles Stadium, a 43,000-seat venue normally home to high school football games.

Trump, clad in his "Make America Great Again" baseball cap, won the backing of Sen. Jeff Sessions, a hometown hero in Mobile. The Alabama Republican praised Trump's positions on immigration.

Some people travel from as far away as California to attend the rally in Mobile. "It was one of the greatest events Mobile ever put on aside from Mardi Gras," says Colby Cooper, chief of staff to Mayor Sandy Stimpson.
A joyful Trump offers to sign copies of one of his books and waves his arms to encourage applause at some of his one-liners. "I'd like to have the election tomorrow," he said at one point. "I don't want to wait."
