Emmy Award trophies.
CNN  —

The nominees for the 75th Emmy Awards – television’s top honor – were announced Wednesday morning.

“Succession” led with 27 Emmy nominations, followed by “The Last of Us” with 24, “The White Lotus” with 23, and “Ted Lasso” with 21.

This year the Television Academy leaned into the darkness, given the multiple nods for decidedly somber shows like “Succession,” “The Last of Us,” “Yellowjackets,” “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and “Beef.”

The uber-dark “Dahmer” in particular received a lot of love in the technical categories as well as nods for star Evan Peters – along with supporting actors Niecy Nash-Betts and Richard Jenkins – for their portrayals in the Netflix story about the infamous serial killer.

The Emmy Awards are currently scheduled for September 18.
