Issa Rae’s new series has yet to premiere and already people can’t stop talking about it.
The star and creator of the eagerly awaited HBO comedy, “Insecure,” stirred buzz with her appearance at the annual Essence Festival in New Orleans over the weekend. Rae spoke at a screening of the show’s first episode and the messages on Twitter and Instagram were pretty consistent: Rae’s followers can’t wait for the show to debut.
“Insecure” premieres this fall – HBO has yet to release the date - and comes as the network announced Lena Dunham’s comedy, “Girls,” will wrap up its run after season six. With a multiracial cast and team of writers, “Insecure” stands to broaden the diversity of HBO’s current programming lineup.
Rae built a loyal audience with her 2011 web series, “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl,” which spurred a 2015 book of the same name.
