Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who has been actively exploring a campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, will announce his decision later this month, CNN has learned.
Jindal is “likely to announce his plans to seek the GOP nomination,” said a person close to the Louisiana governor, with knowledge of the announcement.
The Louisiana governor will announce his 2016 decision at a June 24th event in New Orleans.
Jindal confirmed his plans in a statement Wednesday, and said if he runs, his campaign “will be based on the idea the American people are ready to try a dramatically different direction.”
“We don’t need just small changes, we need a dramatically different path,” he said in the statement.

In May, Jindal established a federal committee to formally evaluate a presidential bid and created a web site touting his possible entry into the race.
A CNN/ORC International survey released Tuesday shows that Jindal is polling at 1% nationally.
