As health care records go digital, clinical applications specialists play a key role in the convergence of technology and clinical care. They help merge the two worlds to digitize the health care process, including scheduling, lab results, doctor's notes and medical records. They help develop and execute new system applications and monitor their effectiveness.

What's great: There is a lot of variety in this role and professionals can choose to work in one specific area of care. "We are giving the tools to clinicians to make sure patient care is up-to-date and effective," said Rikki Bruinsma with the Mayo Clinic in Florida. --K.V.
