Fewer flights (due to airline cutbacks) and fewer passengers helped to ease congestion in the corridors of Salt Lake City's airport last year, according to airport operations superintendent Dave Korzep.
In addition, the nation's 26th busiest airport also made steady progress on boosting its on-time departure performance, rising to nearly 90% in 2012 from 84.9% in 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Arrivals were almost as punctual, with 88.6% of all flights landing within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival times.

And the airport is working on improving its performance even further. It's currently undergoing a major terminal redevelopment program designed to reduce congestion on the runway, as well as inside the airport.
