Minneapolis-St Paul became a major hub for Northwest Airlines; the airline and the airport grew up together starting in the 1920s. Now, it's one of the biggest domestic hubs for Delta, which took over Northwest Airlines almost five years ago.
Remarkably, Minnesota's harsh winters have had little impact on flight schedules, with extreme weather delaying only 0.35% of departures in 2012, according to the Department of Transportation.
All told, nearly 88% of flights left on time last year and 84% the year before. And arrivals hit the mark 87.2% of the time.
