For a lot of us who were in the mortgage industry in southern California, it's been really tough. I had worked in sales for the last eight years, including as a mortgage loan officer before the big housing crash in 2007.
I really liked that job but our major market was to loan modification clients, and when all those companies got shut down, the majority of our market went away.
I worked two other jobs since then, but neither really offered a career. I'm a single mom with two children, and I knew I didn't have much time to find a new job.
In Orange County, you can find positions but there's not a whole lot that's good. Many of the available jobs are low-paying.
This summer, I started sending out résumés. I found a listing on Craigslist for a job at Zillow and the qualifications they described totally met my background.
I applied for it, they called me right away. Two weeks later, I started working there as an inside sales consultant.
